Asics Gel-NYC 'Ivy/Smoke Grey'

Asics Gel-NYC 'Ivy/Smoke Grey'

This colorway caught my eye out of the pairs to release in early 2024. It reminded me a lot of the jjjjound v3 that came out a few years ago, but with an Asics twist on it. I feel like a lot of people slept on this colorway, but I was gonna cop for sure & I wanted to say ty to @drifthouse for helping pick up a pair.

Materials: I feel like the NYC is one becoming a go to pair from Asics where we're seeing better materials sprinkled into the design. Adding to the vintage runner trend, we have the mesh done in an ivy, big hole mesh for added breathability. The toe cap is done in a soft, ivy suede & this continues to wrap around the entire bottom half of the sneaker. Underneath the suede is a silver panel that adds a nice contrast to the green & white hits. Moving to the stripes, they went with a cream-ish (almost ivory) suede with cream underlays giving the stripes a 3d effect. My favorite part of all NYC's has always been the gel embroidery on the back heel, it's truly a small detail, but idk it just really compliments the design for me. Overall, I feel like they did a nice job on these and I was impressed with my pick-up.

Comfort/Sizing: in terms of comfort, I feel like this is similar to the 1130 in terms of squish, but it has a more stable & firm feel if that makes sense. In terms of sizing, I got these in a US 8, which is my tts. I'd recommend going tts, unless you want a roomy fit.

Overall Opinion: I feel like the NYC has the potential to be a solid model in folks rotation but the Kayano 14, 1130, & 2160 have been getting a lot of the shine recently. This specific colorway is probably my favorite non-collab Gel-NYC cw to release & they used nice materials on it as well. Imo, the NYC looks better on foot than other models tbh, but that's just my personal preference. I hope we continue to see more love on these bc I definitely feel like this is a solid sneaker that can easily be thrown on & used as an everyday pair. I feel like this cw flew under the radar for a lot of folks and they have been slowly selling out, but I can definitely see people regretting that they slept in the future.
